Salix gracilistyla 'Mount Aso' (m) is a hardy, deciduous, bushy shrub reaching 3-4 m tall in 5-10 years. Slightly bluish leaves with silvery undersides & unusual pink catkins with a silvery sheen are produced in spring before the leaves. Any reasonable moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Can grow in an exposed or more sheltered position. Dislikes shallow, chalk soils. If required prune every 2-3 years in March for the best catkins. Attractive to bees.
