About us
We are a traditional family run nursery growing plants in a wonderful environment in South Lakeland, within the
walls of an old walled garden (we do not have planted up borders or sell anything other than plants.) We love to grow our plants propagating many of the ourselves. All plants are grown as naturally as possible to make sure that they grow well when planted in your garden. Our staff, Bob, Rachel & Cath are very happy to give advice whether you are are new to gardening or more experienced. Ryan works hard in the growing area of the nursery.
Bob has over 60 years of experience in growing a wide range of plants. He is also available to give garden advice & can visit your garden if you wish. He has experience of gardens all over Cumbria, North Lancashire & North Yorkshire so can advise you on the most suitable plants to thrive in your garden. Alternatively, for smaller gardens or borders please bring in measurements, photos etc for Bob to look at in the nursery or send us an email:- cathsgardenplants61126@gmail.com. If you wish to speak to Bob in the nursery please ring first to check that he will be available. Tel:- 07724388060

We were also awarded a Gold medal & Best in Show at Gardener's World & a Gold medal & Best in Show at Dublin Flower Show & Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
offering a wide range of herbaceous perennials and some shrubs, grasses, clematis and other wall shrubs. If we do not have the plant you are looking for we can also source plants to order especially larger sized shrubs or trees. We take orders for bare rooted fruit and ornamental trees and hedging from July onwards. This is a much cheaper option than buying potted plants.
Plant advice
All our plants are well labelled. The herbaceous plants are laid out in beds for growing conditions to help you to choose the 'right plant for the right place.' starting with plants requiring moist or boggy soils at one end through to plants requiring good drainage at the other end. Please take time to read the labels of plants you like. If you are unsure please ask for help from our friendly, knowledgeable staff.
We also have a dedicated shade area containing plants suitable for this more difficult garden area as well as an area dedicated to shrubs/small trees, climbers & wall shrubs.. If you are looking for a specific plant please ask as we may have it in our growing area. We can also try to source plants that we do not have available. We all enjoy growing our plants & want you to enjoy growing them in your own garden. We have many happy returning customers who tell us that they have never lost any of our plants.
Design advice
Bob has landscaped and designed gardens for over 40 years. He can offer a range of design options whether
your garden is large or small. If you would like Bob to visit your garden for more detailed or larger garden advice then there is a charge. However you can obtain free advice if you bring in your images, measurements etc to the nursery.

Gardening can be extremely therapeutic and enjoyable especially when you are advised on the right plants for the right places. We have built up our reputation by guaranteeing that we do not sell plants to customers unless they have the right conditions for the plants to survive. We can also recommend professional businesses that offer hard landscaping services as we no longer provide this service.
The Nursery
On the walls you can still see the remains of the greenhouses where peaches and other fruit used to be grown. Many visitors remark on the birds around the nursery some of them quite tame
at times. We are passionate about the wide range of quality plants and as we are also passionate about all wildlife (except for the mice, voles and rabbits when they eat our plants!) we grow plants as naturally as possible making them ideal for growing on well in your garden. Our stock is always changing and so it is worth visiting on a regular basis, if possible, so that you have plants in your own garden giving interest and colour all year round. We are always pleased to give help and advice about the plants or the design of your garden..
Enjoy browsing among our wide range of herbaceous perennials including both old fashioned & new & unusual varieties. We offer shrubs & small trees having a wide variety of Acers, Cornus kousa & Magnolias as well as other unusual specimens. Grasses, roses, wall shrubs and climbers as well as over 30 varieties of Ferns.
We can also supply bare rooted fruit trees and bushes & hedging which is considerately cheaper than pot grown plants. Fruit trees can be ordered from July onwards for delivery when dormant usually from October onwards. All our fruit is supplied from a northern British nursery. If you are unsure of the best varieties for your area then Bob is happy to advise. We also offer a plant sourcing service if we do not have the plants in stock that you are looking for.
