If planted as a hedge prune immediately after flowering. If grown as a shrub in late summer remove any dead branches & reduce flowering shoots to a strong, lower bud if you want to reduce its size. Good to mulch after pruning if possible.
This plant was introduced into Britain in 1817 from western North America where it naturally grows in dry, open woods & rocky slopes. Don't plant near pine trees .
