Rheum 'Alexandrae' (Alexander's rhubarb' Recent introduction
Rheum 'Alexandrae' is a statuesque, architectural perennial reaching about 1.2 m tall x 60 cm (24''). It produces pale-green, spoon-shaped leaves & white flowers in midsummer. Creamy-yellow bracts virtually cover the flowers & hang in pendulous panicles from the stem almost concealing the flowers. Sometimes produces bean-like seed pods. Long heart-shaped leaves up to 20 cm long with prominent veins. Red & orange autumn colour. Full sun/part-shade in moist soil. Ideal for a bog garden. Hardy down to - 20 C.
