Baptisia 'Burgundy Blast' Recent introduction Attractive to butterflies Deer resistant

Baptisia 'Burgundy Blast' is a recently introduced perennial & is a colour breakthrough in Baptisia varieties. The dark wine-red flowers produced from late spring into summer are much redder than previous plants. The foliage is a dark blue-green. When it is in flower it produces a stunning display of colour. Flowers are followed by showy seed pods. The plant can be cut back after flowering to keep it compact & bushy but if it is cut back you will lose the attractive seed pods. Reaches about 1 m tall. Easily grown but can take about 3 years to become established. Think carefully before planting because Baptisias grow a large tap root which can be easily damaged so it is best left undisturbed once planted. Plant in any dry, well-drained soil in full sun/part-shade. Drought tolerant when established. Attractive to butterflies. Deer resistant.
