Magnolia stellata 'Royal Star' AGM

Magnolia stellata 'Royal Star' AGM is a multi-stemmed, deciduous small tree growing between 3-6 m x 2.5 m spread. Masses of pale pink buds open to produce large, pure white flowers 15 cm (6'') across with a slight touch of pink. Flowers in early spring before leaves emerge. Each fragrant flower has 25-30 tepals! Each flower looks like a starburst hence its common name 'Star Mag'. It is a sturdy, fast growing, very hardy variety flowering up to 10 days earlier than other varieties but that makes the flowers susceptible to late frosts. Sun/part-shade in any reasonable, moist but well-drained soil. Will adapt to grow in clay, loam or sandy soils but will grow poorly in wet or poorly drained soils. Shelter from cold, dry winds so buds aren't damaged. Prune in midsummer if needed. Mulch & water well in warm weather at least for the first 12 months after planting.
