Cornus kousa 'Madame Butterfly Recent introduction'
Cornus kousa 'Madame Butterfly' can grow to a small tree in 10-20 years. Dense, spreading habit & can grow to about 7 m tall .Green leaves turn red & purple in autumn. In summer it produces clusters of greenish flowers surrounded by large creamy-white bracts which show pink tints as they age & curve upwards slightly, they are said to give the appearance of white butterflies in flight. After a hot summer it produces red-orange lychee-like fruit. Sun/part-shade in any reasonably fertile soil.
