Clematis viticella 'Astra Nova' is not too vigorous only growing 6-8' a year so can grow in the border or a large pot.Free flowering. Flowers grow in great clusters from the beginning of June to the end of September. Eye catching, semi-double flowers of violet-purple with a white stripe in the centre of each petal && a spiky centre of violet-purple & white stamens. Any reasonable moist but well-drained soil in sun/part-shade. Hardy but best in a sheltered position. Can be grown on walls, fences, pergolas or through Wisteria, Bamboo or up a tree. Good grown with roses. Tolerant so can be planted in any situation..
