Clematis montana 'Fragrant Spring' Attractive to butterflies Deer & rabbit resistant

Clematis montana 'Fragrant Spring' is a delightfully scented, deciduous climber with single, clear mauve-purple flowers adorned with yellow-green stamens in late spring & early summer. The profuse flowers usually cover the attractive bronze leaves. A few flowers are produced in autumn. Flowers fade as they mature & are followed by attractive seed heads which provide winter interest. It is a vigorous climber reaching 6-9 m in height. Good for covering walls, trellis, fences, arbours, climbing up trees & even makes a good ground cover plant. Easily grown in any reasonable moist but well-drained soil in sun/part-shade. It prefers its head in full sun & its feet in shade. Keep the roots cool & shaded by other plants or add a layer of pebbles or flat stones at the base. It loves afternoon shade. Belongs in the Group 1 category of early flowering Clematis. This group requires no regular pruning just clearing up after flowering. Attracts butterflies. Deer & rabbit resistant. Toxic to dogs, cats & horses.
