Helianthus 'Monarch' is a deciduous, hardy, clump forming, upright perennial with tall stems supporting clusters of single, bright yellow sunflower-like flowers with brown centres from July-Sept. Good cut flowers. The flowers are attractive to bees & butterflies. Grows to approx. 120-150 cm x 60-90 cm spread in 2-5 years. They are easily grown & will grow in almost any soil except in a pond or in full shade! Any reasonable soil in full sun or part-shade. They are tough, low maintenance plants. Goes well with other Helianthus varieties, tall grasses like Miscanthus, Asters & Kniphofia.
