How to get rid of mildew in a way that is friendly to plants and wildlife
Are some of your plants suffering with mildew at the moment? Mildew tends to strike more when the weather is dry and so plants are more in need of water. I have been given this tip by a recent customer and it is purported to come from Monty Don.
Mix skimmed milk with water in the proportions 1 unit of skimmed milk to 9 of water and spray onto the affected plants. The spraying should start early in the season and be repeated but as plants were slower into growth this year it is worth starting now if any plants are suffering.
Euphorbias, especially the non-green leaved varieties are prone to mildew and can be damaged by insecticides so it would be worth trying this method. We will be trying it at the nursery as one or two plant varieties are showing signs of mildew because of all the dry weather this year. If you read this tip and try it I would be pleased to hear of your results, send an email, so that I can share them with other gardeners.
