A beautiful tree for the mixed or shrub border or to grow as a speciman. Beautiful rounded almost heart-shaped leaves of varying shades of purple, maroon & bronze that look beautiful with the light shining through them. Wonderful autumn colour when leaves turn yellow, orange and red and when crushed or fall smell of caramel (burnt sugar). Deep, fertile,humus-rich soil preferably neutral to acid. Sun or dappled shade. Shelter from north and east winds. Approx. 20m x 15m. Prune in late winter or early spring if necessary.
