Camellia japonica 'Elizabeth Hawkins' produces striking red paeony-type semi-double flowers with yellow stamens in April & May. It is an evergreen flowering shrub with luxurious glossy green foliage. Protect flower buds from early morning sunshine after a spring frost. Any reasonably drained acid to neutral soil in a reasonably sheltered site.
Looks attractive planted with Japanese flowering cherry, Amelanchier or Viburnum x burkwoodii.
