Actaea simplex 'Pink Spike'

Actaea simplex 'Pink Spike'

Actaea  simplex 'Pink Spike' is a tall growing deciduous clump forming perennial with attractive long bottle-brush like spikes of pale pink flowers from summer into autumn. Slightly fragrant. Attractive deeply cut and serrated dark bronze-purple foliage. Approx. 150cm tall. Partial-shade in humus-enriched soil or soil that is always moist in full sun. Makes a lovely statement at the back of the border or in a woodland area.  Attractive to insects.

It looks good in autumn planted with Molinia and Calamagrostis grass varieties.  It works well in the late summer/autumn hot border with Rudbeckia and Heleniums. The dark foliage is a super foil for most plants from spring omwards. For midsummer plant with Monarda and Crocosmia before the pink flowers emerge..
