Aconitum fischeri or carmichaelii
Aconitum fischeri is a clump forming deciduous perennial that is shorter growing than most other varieties. Spikes of large purple-blue hooded flowers in August-September. Broadly dissected, thick and leathery glossy green leaves. Approx. 60cm tall. Part-shade in fertile, moisture retentive soil. Excellent cut flowers. Ideal in the border or more naturalistic area. All parts of plant are poisonous if eaten. If you are bothered by slugs and cannot grow Delphiniums then this plant is for you as it does not suffer from slug damage.
Can look good planted with Astrantia, Achillea, and Anemone such as Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' or some of the smaller flowered Asters.
