Actaea simplex 'Black Negligee'
Actaea simplex 'Black Negligee' is one of the newer varieties bred for its extremely attractive black or very dark foliage which looks attractive from spring onwards. Please note that the foliage may be greener when young, darkening as it matures. Later from July to September the plant is adorned with spikes of bottlebrush-like white scented flowers. An ideal plant for the middle or nearer the back of any border at approx. 90cm tall. Sun and any reasonable soil not too dry. Attractive to insects.
Looks attractive planted next to Paeonias as the dark foliage is a lovely foil to the large flowers.
