Sambucus nigra f. porphyrophylla 'Gerda' (PBR) AGM produces intense burgundy-black foliage with lemon-scented pale pink flowers in early summer that open from dark red buds. Purple-black berries in autumn. Approx. 3m x 3m. Can be pruned well down each year in spring if wished. Deciduous.
Makes a statement in any garden and looks good underplanted with Carex elata 'Aurea', Hostas or Primula florindae.
