Enjoy a splash of colour in your garden or pots to chase away the grey days.
Barnhaven primroses are wonderful for providing colour early in the year. There is a shade for everyone as they vary from brights to pastels. The wide range of Barnhavens are on our website showing the various colours available. Barnhaven primroses are extremely hardy and long lived. The rosettes clump up and can be split every 2 or 3 years providing more plants for free. If you want to split and divide them then spring is the right time.
Some people have still got young plants from original plants bought between 25-30 years ago showing what good value garden plants they are. The plants will be dearer than primroses /primulas bought from the garden centre or elsewhere because they are all still hand pollinated to ensure that them come true to variety. One of the beauties ot these plants is that although they mught be named 'New Pinks' for instance the plants produce a variety of different pinks shades on the different plants.
These relatively small growing but tough plants will fit in even the smallest garden or even a window box. Equally they can be planted in drifts in the larger garden either in one variety or mixed. THey are quite adaptable growing in sun or part-shade in any reasonable soil and once established do not require much attention from the busy gardener. Deadheading will however increase and prolong their flowering period.
