About us
We are a traditional family run nursery within a beautiful setting of an old walled garden. On the walls you can still see the remains of the greenhouses where the peaches and other fruit used to be grown. All our plants are grown naturally in this lovely environment which encourages a wide range of wildlife most of which we enjoy, butterflies, insects and a wide range of birds which we feed, whilst others like mice and rabbits cause us problems!
Although the business started in 2000 we are in our 5th year of trading as Caths Garden Plants, from the nursery, and we continue to try to offer you a wide range of plants to choose from.
OPENING TIMES.
We are open every day from 1 March until the end of October including all Bank holidays and Easter Sunday from 10-30am - 5pm. From 1 November until the end of February we are open Monday - Friday from 10-30am - 4pm closed weekends. As Bob and I cover the weekends we do need some time off! We do close over the Christmas/New Year period and so if you were hoping to visit it would be best to ring first (015395 61126) to check we were open.
WHO'S WHO?
There are 4 of us working full time. Myself - Cath 'The Boss' who many of you will meet at the nursery or the shows. My husband, Bob, who is the 'man who knows' and who you will also meet at the nursery, shows or when he visits groups and societies during the autumn and winter doing talks or at the events we hold at the nursery.
If Bob isn't around then Andrew is the next person we call on for advice. He has been working with Bob for many years and is also horticulturally trained and is responsible for much of the potting especially of the larger shrubs. Kate has been with us for 2 years now and is picking up knowledge quickly. Stuart and Nicola help us at weekends and during school holidays and I don't know how we'ed manage without them.
Kate thoroughly enjoys helping with the Flower Show displays (as also does Andrew) and so this is allowing me to step back from this area (which I find very stressful) and concentrate more on helping our customers.
2007 was our best year yet for Show awards:-
Harrogate both Spring and Autumn - Premier Awards (Top award in the show).
Gardening Scotland - Silver Gilt.
RHS BBC Gardeners' World - Gold Medal.
RHS Tatton Park Flower Show - Gold Medal.
Southport Flower Show - Gold Medal.
I can take little credit for these awards - all the credit goes to Bob, Kate and Andrew. In fact, Kate and Andrew put on the Southport display by themselves!
We all enjoy working with our plants and we hope that this comes across to you when you purchase a plant from us. We take a pride in growing quality plants to the best of our ability so that our plants will thrive in your garden and give you pleasure for a long time to come. Kate is growing our herbs and also taking some of the photographs you will see on our website especially our Barnhaven primroses, new to us this year.
